1966 Martin 0-16NY
Natural, This was sent back to the factory in 1999 and retopped. Now that’s a lifetime warranty! It was purchased in 1969 and comes with the payment book that starts in June of that year. The Beatles were still together. That means this sat in an Iowa store for at least a year (not uncommon). Much of this cool paperwork included. The guitar has a mahogany back, sides, neck and a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and we are pretty sure the original bridge. These 16 series, like today, are a bit austere with simple binding, no back binding and a satin lacquer finish. It was a nod to Martin’s first factory that started in New York in 1833 with it’s open headstock with Brazilan overlay, O size body and no pickguard. These were popular during the folk boom with the model starting in 1961. This model was popular with women for its comfortable size that lent itself to fingerstyle playing. We got this from the daughter of the original owner who said her mom used it around Chicago playing gigs and met her husband in the famous Chicago folk scene of the 60’s. Has a 1 7/8” nut width, Martin branded Schaller tuners and is currently strung with Silk and Steels. Sounds great for its size with a strong balanced voice. Very Charming. Comes with a newer Martin hard case. $2750
