Description

This is a rare small box S/A 50 watt head, serial # 4823 C from 1971. The chassis features hand-wired circuitry, same as the Plexi period and was phased out in mid-1973 when Marshall started using PCBs. This is one powerful amp! Lead circuit: Split cathode on V1, 33K resistor in tone stack .022’s in phase inverter, etc.

I am not a Marshall expert, and primarily focus on high end guitars, i.e. vintage and Gibson Custom shop (www.leftyvintageguitars.com and https://www.gbase.com/stores/lefty-vintage-guitars). The amp and cabinet(sold) were primarily purchased to take pics together with my guitars.

So I had the amp inspected on 3/28/25 by a local Marshall collector, who helped me take pics and pack the amp in a box used by Greg Germino to ship a 67 Marshall Tremolo head. The 33 pics were also shown to another Marshall collector, who described it as a time capsule. In addition, the amp was inspected by Gary Dahl Pro Audio in Sarasota, FL on 7-9-20, with written receipt included.

The amp is in EXC cosmetic condition and rates a conservative 8/10 (see pics). Includes original cabinet and back cover, which is often missing on these older Marshall heads. There is one screw missing on the back cover, that's the only thing missing that we could see. All the solder joints have the period-correct red ink, and the caps, pots, transformers look correct. And the amp still retains its original 2-prong cord!

The amp is not getting played due to current health issues, and my roof was damaged from Hurricane Milton (with the insurance company did not paying me enough for a roof replacement), so I regrettably have to sell the amp.

The amp is professionally packed as stated above, and will ship to CONUS via FED EX ground.
