Description

This Gretsch Streamliner was made in the USA in early 1958. It is marked "6189" on the label but the 6189 Streamliner was a single pickup guitar. This guitar has generated some discussion in our store about whether it is a rare transitional model or simply a modified Streamliner. The argument for original is that both pickups are matching 50's PAF filtertrons, the pots (which would not even be on a Streamliner) both date to 1957, and the pickguard (which is clearly 50's) is factory shaped for 2-pickups. On the other hand, the routing for the bridge pickup is noticeably more crude than the neck pickup, and of course the label says "6189". There has been less debate about the fact that this is a very cool guitar that plays and sounds great. It has trestle bracing so the construction and design is identical to a late 50's 6120 which is arguably the best version of that model. The guitar shows wear and tear but no structural damage. It has been refretted. It comes with the original case.
