1960 Gibson SG Standard/Les Paul Red

Read the entire description. This is not your typical SG/Les Paul. First, it's near mint...SG's are fragile and it's hard to find one that has no neck issues (no stress cracks or checks, no heel issues). They also fade. This one has no issues at all and is as vibrant as the day it was made. It is near mint. I can't call it mint due to a few tiny dings. There is no wear of any kind. But even with all that, $42000 is an awful lot of money for even a mint SG. Here's why: The SG/Les Paul was officially released in 1961 but a very few made it out of the factory in 1960. The serial number is inked on like a 60 Les Paul. The serial one number before this one is the example in Duchossoir's book. The serial number one in front of that one is a burst. I am told that this is from a second batch of 1960 SGs and that this is probably the 12th one made. Apparently Gibson is selling the first SG (“The Red Whale”) for $200k. Makes mine look like a bargain at twice the price. What does it mean to be a 60 rather than a 61? Long magnet PAF is likely-the short magnet was phased in in 1961. The neck profile is larger than the typical 61 (and 62). I would consider this a museum grade SG. It is the cleanest I've ever had. The fact that it's a 60 is icing on an already wonderful cake. Monster player with complex tone that will put a smile on your face. Original super clean case.
