This Gibson Les Paul was made in 2005 and was part of a very limited edition run to raise money for musicians who lost their instruments in hurricane Katrina. They made only 300 of these Les Pauls and this one is number 110 or 300. Each of these guitars has been hand painted and no two are alike. The guitar is in excellent near mint condition and also comes with two framed posters making this an incredible rare and collectible Les Paul. Please check out the pictures and message with questions.
Here is some info from Gibson that came out for the release of the guitars:
The sales of these 300 guitars were to benefit musicians who lost their instruments in Hurricane Katrina. The body features hand-painted designs using the colors of Mardi Gras. Each guitar is individually painted and handmade, so no two are alike. The guitars were meant to show imperfections after the loss in hurricane Katrina, so you’ll find random paint splotches and other imperfections throughout, direct from the factory. All of the usual plastic parts (back plate, pick guard, toggle cover, truss rod cover) have been replaced by woods from the States affected by the hurricane and the Music Rising logo, exclusive to this guitar, is etched into the pick guard.
Music Rising History: Following a visit to New Orleans in November 2005, U2’s The Edge announced the unveiling of Music Rising, a campaign to raise funds to replace the lost instruments and accessories of the musicians affected by the hurricanes that devastated the Gulf Coast region. Lead partners Gibson Guitars and Guitar Center Music Foundation spearheaded the initial effort by collaborating on the design, manufacture and sale of an exclusive Gibson guitar with all proceeds going directly to the Music Rising program.
Music Rising was a campaign created by U2's The Edge, producer Bob Ezrin, and Gibson Guitar Chairman and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz along with support from some of the most diverse entertainment partners in the world. Inaugural partners included Guitar Center Music Foundation and MusiCares along with Musician's Friend, VH-1 Networks, MTV Networks, Rolling Stone Magazine, The Kennedy/Marshall Company, Ticketmaster, and Live Nation. The campaign's goal has always been to help rebuild the musical heart and culture of the Gulf Region by replacing the musical instruments and gear that were lost in the Inundation of 2005.
The Edge teamed up with Gibson to help put musical instruments back into the hands of Katrina victims, and these collectible Les Pauls feature Mardi Gras style artwork to celebrate New Orleans' musical scene. Each one is hand painted and unique. NO DUPLICATE EXISTS!
