This 1953 Goldtop is fantastic! The action is so low, and it plays effortlessly. This Goldtop is an early 53 with a Trapeze Tailpiece. It has a headstock repair. Fortunately, the break did not go through to the face of the headstock, and it did not completely separate. Due to this, the repair is a SUPER clean repair with zero modification to the wood or finish, making this a players-grade example. In many photos, it is hard to tell if the headstock was ever repaired. It is a clean, solid repair that can only be seen from the back since the break did not penetrate the front. The guitar and gold finish has aged gracefully, with nice checking on the front and minimal checking on the back. It has buckle rash and shows all the signs of a well-loved 71-year-old guitar. The frets are original and have a lot of life left in them, still possessing the original nibs (which I love). It has its original 4-latch Lifton case and original leather strap. The only hardware that has been removed/replaced is the bridge. I replaced it with a MojoAxe Compensated Bridge. This bridge has really opened the guitar up, allowing for much better playing conditions. The original bridge is in the case. The action is low and has the ability to go even lower. I'd argue it can go as low as any Jackson. This 53 intonates perfectly. It sets up nicely. The neck feels amazing and is an excellent medium neck. The pickups/electronics have never been taken out of the guitar. It is a great example. It's a lightweight, weighing in at only 8.48 lbs.
I initially wanted a conversion LP but could not find one I preferred. I went with this guitar instead. I was going to convert it to a 55/56, but I have had a change of heart and have decided to sell/trade it for a vintage LP that will better suit my needs.
My preference is to trade it for another vintage player-grade LP. I want something that has already been converted with an abr-1 or a wraparound or something original with a wraparound or possibly an ABR-1. I will also ship at the buyer's expense. This would need to be further discussed.
