Description

In cooperation with Watchtower Guitars , we have for sale a very rare trio of Loar signed Mandolin family instruments. The Loar signed mandolin family instruments are considered the finest ever produced and have set the model for all similar instruments that have followed. The F-5 mandolin , in the hands of Bill Monroe, Dave Apollon and others, revolutionized the voice of the instrument .the Mandola is the viola equivalent , tuned a fifth lower than the mandolin. The Mandocello is tuned an octave below the Mandola. Additionally, the F-5 mandolin and the H-5 Mandola , both non Virzi, are housed in a one of a kind double rectangular case . The instruments are in excellent condition original condition and have recently been set up for optimum playability and sound by David Harvey ( head of Gibson Mandolin division). The signing date for the Mandola is March 31, 1924, and Mandocello was signed on Oct 13, 1924. The F-5 was signed on April 12, 1923.
The F-5 has had a back seam repair with some overspray. The other two instruments are all original with no repairs. Only about 21 Mandolas are accounted for ( most with Virzi tone producers) ) and even rarer, the Mandocello is one of 11 known. This trio was held in a private collection for almost 50 years. A rare opportunity to obtain the set .
