Gibson B25-12 1967 | $1295 | (v2418) A nice clean and original example of a Gibson 12-string aimed at the youth folk movement of the mid-sixties. The little brother of the B45-12, the B25 line was essentially the next iteration of the LG2 series which had been phased out. The same quality Gibson workmanship and materials make the B25-12's an affordable entry into the 12-string world.
The X-braced top is spruce edged in w/b/w binding, which is echoed at the soundhole. The pickguard is the classic Gibson 'pointy' guard. The rectangular bridge is Brazilian and features the two adjustable bolts offered by Gibson in this era. Note that the B25-12 line featured a number of bridges over its run; we feel that this combo of rectangular bridge and tailpiece is the most aesthetically pleasing. The back and sides are mahogany. The neck is mahogany and the fingerboard is Brazilian with seven pearl dot markers. The neck features an adjustable truss rod. The head stock is painted black and sports the block-letter-G Gibson logo in gold. The tuners are Kluson DeLuxe enclosed.
The body measures 14 3/8" across at the lower bout. Scale length is a short-scale 24 3/4". The fingerboard measures 2" across at the nut, with string spacing 2 1/4" at the saddle. Action is set at a comfortable 4 & 5/64".
The guitar appears in original condition with no prior repairs evident. We leveled and dressed the frets, glued and cleated one small pickguard crack under the guard, and lubed the tuners. There are a few nicks and dings from age and use, and some checking in the finish, which is typical of Gibsons in this era. At one point in its history it appears that the treble side threaded tip of the 'trapeze' tailpiece had broken off and washers were added to the other side to balance out the orientation .. minor detail.
With its low action and short scale, the guitar plays easily. The overall sound is a bit thin, due to its size, but has plenty of 'cut' and a bit of archtop 'scratch' in the mids. A really fun 12-string for old ragtime, blues or chord comping in a small combo.
