Bay Area Vintage Guitars is proud to offer this extraordinary 1968 Framus Texan 5/196 Acoustic Guitar, a masterpiece from W. Germany. This rare find offers unmatched value, blending affordability with a one-of-a-kind tone that only Framus can deliver.

Despite its age, this 1968 Framus Texan 5/196 Acoustic Guitar remains in good condition with only minor nicks, dents, dings, and surface scratches that enhance its vintage charm without compromising its structural integrity. There is a slight crack at the top of the body near the strap button (see pictures). It appears to be only a surface crack and does not affect the sound or playability.

It features a bolt-on neck—a unique characteristic for acoustic guitars—that allows for personal adjustments, ensuring optimal playability without removing and re-gluing the neck. The solid neck (many Framus necks are laminate) and luxurious rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays provide both durability and elegance. The frets show minimal wear for a smooth playing experience.

Framus guitars have a rich history of excellence, dating back to 1946, when master luthiers established their craft in Bavaria, Germany. This 1968 Texan model from former West Germany, with its adjustable bolt-on bridge with a saddle, offers a range of tonal possibilities that make it stand out from other acoustics, much like a Gibson J-200 with an adjustable mustache bridge.

Renowned for their unique and pleasing sound, Framus guitars were the best-selling brand in Europe during the 1960s. They have been the preferred choice of many rising superstars, including Jimmy Page, who originally recorded "Stairway to Heaven" on a Framus. Owning this guitar means possessing a piece of music history that has inspired countless legends.
