Description

Offered is this spectacular example of an early 1965 Stratocaster, before CBS changed the design to any significant extent starting with the 1966 models. This "transition era" guitar (serial number L71802) is all original including the finish, pickups, solder joints, screws and plastics.

In most respects, the specs of these “early 1965” Stratocasters were unchanged from the 1964 models. Minor changes between 1964 and early 1965 guitars found on this guitar include: fingerboard inlays and side dots (now pearloid vs. clay), the tuners (now “double line vs. single line Kluson), the pickups (now “gray bottoms” vs. the earlier “black bottoms”) and the transition era peghead decal.

The neck on this instrument dates to March 1965. The guitar has a total weight of 7.8 pounds. The original sunburst finish remains vivid and the body is well above average in condition with just a couple of areas of finish loss along the edges of the body (see photo). The original 3-ply mint green guard and the underlying aluminum shield remain in place. It has a “D-shape” maple neck with a round laminated Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with neck depth measurements of .820" at the first fret increasing to .950" at the twelfth fret. The original frets remain in very good condition and the guitar remains nicely playable. The original CTS pots date to April 1965. The original cloth wiring and solder joints remain in place and the factory three-way selector switch remains installed. It comes in its original no-logo case which is also in well-above average condition for this era. Also included are the tremolo arm, cord and strap.

This guitar still plays quite nicely with the original frets and the tone is true to its iconic heritage. Please check out the brief sound sample included below.

This is an investment-grade vintage Fender in terrific original condition. Own a piece of playable music history with this incredible, collectible Stratocaster.
