Fender Custom Shop 2020 MBS Limited 70th Anniversary Broadcaster Relic Master Built by Jason Smith
Only 70 pieces of the ”70th Anniversary Broadcaster Relic" were made by master builders.
This model has been reissued in a limited edition to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the "Broadcaster”, the original model of the Norcaster and Telecaster.
Originally released as Fender's first solid body electric guitar "Broadcaster", the product name "Broadcaster" could no longer be used as Gretsch already owned the "BroadKaster" trademark, so the product name was removed from the headstock, hard case, and warranty. The "Broadcaster" name was removed from the head, hard case, and warranty card.
The off-center two-piece ash body has a boldly stripped neck grip, painted body back, finely detailed weather-checks, scratches on the body edges, and dull metal parts, all of which have been played over the years and reproduced by the bold "Relic" process. (Although it is labeled "Relic”, the finish is Heavy Relic.)
The neck is an AA grade flame maple with a 1950 Blackguard "V" shape, 7.25"-9.5 "R fingerboard, compound radius, and frets. The fretboard has a 7.25"-9.5 "R compound radius and medium vintage frets.
The pickups are Custom Shop Hand-Wound '50-'51 Blackguard signed by Josefina Campos.
The controls allow the front pickup to blend when the rear pickup is selected, and when position 3 is selected, the tone is fully focused like the vintage wiring of the past.
Position 1 Neck Pickup w/Blender
Position 2 Neck w/No Tone
Position 3 Neck w/Preset Tone
The neck and truss rod are in good condition with almost no fret wear.
Included is a control plate with modern wiring already wired for a standard Telecaster control, a replica of a magazine ad from the era, a replica of the Gretsch trademark notice from the era, and Jason Smith's business card.
