2018 Collings Soco 16 LC Amber Sunburst
For those who may not be familiar with Collings’ semi-hollow electric line, the Soco is a single cut version of their extremely popular I-35 model, with both models having a 15” wide lower bout. The instrument offered here, a Soco 16 LC, was originally designed with jazz players in mind and has a slightly larger body with a 16” wide lower bout. That said, this is an electric that suits all playing and music styles.
Being an 'LC' model, this instrument has a laminated maple body and a maple center block. The laminated construction is preferred by many as being more resistant to feedback than solid wood models. Some also argue that the laminated woods result in a more focused tone. This beauty is finished in Amber Sunburst high gloss nitrocellulose lacquer and has a total weight of just 7.6 pounds. The neck is made of mahogany with ivoroid binding. It has a 24-7/8" string scale, a medium C-shape with depth measurements of .865" at the first fret and .970" at the twelfth fret. The very dark Indian Rosewood fretboard has a 12" radius, a 1-11/16" nut, medium frets and has been upgraded with fancy parallelogram inlays. The electronics on this guitar consist of Lollar Low Wind Imperial humbuckers, DiMarzio pots and Jupiter caps and a 50's style wiring setup. The bridge and tailpiece are by Kluson and the tuners are Gotohs with ivoroid buttons.
Like virtually all the guitars Collings builds, this Soco is incredibly well made and It feels as though it was carved from a single piece of wood. The playability is among the best in the business and the tone matches or exceeds that of any other semi-hollow electric model I have ever played. This guitar is in near mint condition with no flaws of any significance. It could easily pass for new. The frets are spotless as well. It comes in its original Collings/Ameritage case, also in superb condition.
A new example of this guitar sells for nearly $6,500 but you can get this superb 2018 example for $1K less. Shipping to Continental US addresses is via FedEx Ground, with flat rate shipping of $60 to Eastern time zones, $70 Central and $80 Mountain/Pacific. Shipping to Alaska and Hawaii is $100. Refunds of the original purchase price less shipping and a 10% restocking fee may be requested within 48 hours of delivery. Exchanges within one (1) week of the original date of purchase may be made for an item of equal or greater value at the discretion of Capital Guitars. Where permitted herein, items must be promptly returned at the buyer's expense, in the same condition as received with all accessories and paperwork included.
