Description

Offered here is one of the most sought-after semi-hollow electrics, a Collings I-35 LC built in 2021 and in "as new" condition. This example has been upgraded with a custom color, Walnut and has been given Collings' factory (light) aging. You will see various iterations of the Collings I-35, I-30 and Soco models in our inventory, but used examples are hard to find and hard to keep in stock!

Being an 'LC' model I-35 this instrument has a laminated Maple body, which many players prefer because it is said that wood laminations resists feedback a bit better than solid wood and has a more focused tone. This beauty is finished in 'Walnut' nitrocellulose lacquer and has lightly aged. Collings' aging process consists of very discrete finish checking and artificial oxidation of the hardware and plastics which gives this guitar a slightly "broken-in" look and feel that I really like. It is incredibly resonant and has a total weight of just 6.6 pounds. The neck is made of Mahogany and has a 24-7/8" string scale, a medium/fat C-shape with depth measurements of .855" at the first fret and .975" at the twelfth fret. The Indian Rosewood fretboard has a 12" radius, a 1-11/16" nut, medium frets and ivoroid binding. The electronics consist of Lollar low wind humbuckers, 500K pots, Jupiter caps and a 50's style wiring setups. The bridge is a Kluson ABR-1 and the tuners are Gotohs with aged ivoroid buttons.

Play this guitar and you will recognize the Gibson ES formula, but with a precision and consistency that Gibson has been unable to match. Like virtually all the guitars Collings builds, this I-35 feels like it was carved from a single piece of wood. Few guitars at any price are any easier to play! The tone is superb - please check out the brief sound sample provided. This guitar has a fat, woody voice that can be as smooth as silk or as gritty and thick as any LP out there - just add gain!

This guitar has seen little to no play time and is in near mint condition with no flaws of any significance (other than the factory aging). As shown in the pics, the frets are spotless. To get a better condition you would have to buy a new one. It comes in the original Collings/Ameritage case with the original paperwork.

A new example of this model with the aged custom finish will now cost you $7,300 and a significant wait time. This near mint 2021 guitar can be yours for quite a bit less. For many players, this is a guitar that beats the Gibson ES series at it's own game. Make this beauty yours today!
