Let me start off by admitting that this is the very first Breedlove product I have spent my own money on in all the years I have been selling guitars. That said, this little acoustic is FABULOUS. Offered is this 2014 Breedlove Master Class Parlor built in 2014. Breedlove’s Master Class guitars are the finest that they produce.
This is a small, 12-fret, short scale instrument that is just slightly smaller overall than an ’00’ size guitar with a lower bout width of 13-1/2” and an overall body length of 19”. It is what I call an ‘intimate’ instrument, one that is very easy to snuggle-up to and won’t strain your shoulder. Despite its small size, however, it still has a surprising amount of output. Please check out the brief sound sample included below. To facilitate live play and recording, Breedlove gave this guitar on-board electronics in the form of an LR Baggs Anthem pickup system with sound-hole mounted controls.
The top of this guitar is made of Adirondack spruce and the back and sides are made of gorgeous striped ebony. It has a nice slim contour 12-fret, 25” scale length neck made of Honduran mahogany and a 1-3/4” nut width. The fingerboard and the bridge are made of black ebony. The body and neck binding are made of Koa. It has a slotted headstock with an ebony overlay and gold Waverly tuners with black buttons.
This guitar is setup for smooth effortless play with 12th fret string heights of 6/32” on the low E side and 4/32” on the high E side. Like many other manufacturers of high-end acoustic guitars including Collings, Bourgeois, Goodall, Froggy Bottom and Taylor, Breedlove uses a bolt-on neck joint in conjunction with a truss rod to assure a proper neck angle in favor of the more traditional dove-tail neck joint. This design makes it far easier and less expensive to adjust the neck angle should an adjustment become necessary.
While built in 2014, this guitar remains in near mint condition and the frets show zero wear. Just a few hard to see shirt button scratches keep me from classifying the condition as mint. The guitar comes in its original and high quality Ameritage case which is also in near mint condition. The certificate of authenticity, the truss rod adjustment tool and all the other original paperwork are included.
